     2010 Program Overview
    AYSO Extra (formerly PLUS) is designed to give AYSO players an opportunity to participate in a more challenging level of soccer without the substantial increase in cost, time commitment, and travel required of club soccer. 

    The Extra program is run during the fall season with pre and post season tournaments. Region 889 teams compete against other AYSO Plus teams from Area L (Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, San Clemente), Area Q (Costa  Mesa, Tustin, Newport, Irvine) and Area K (Huntington Beach).  Many teams continue in the spring season as Spring Select Competitive teams.     
    Coaches are required to have additional AYSO coach training in addition to Safe Haven Certification.
    Our Plus program has divisions in the U9 through U14 levels for players with advanced soccer skills.  Our region will select one team per gender and age group, based on OPEN tryouts and enough qualified participants.  Each interested player must participate in the AYSO Plus tryouts, where they will be evaluated on their ball handling skills, offensive and defensive ability, game sense, speed and attitude, by a group of independent evaluators and Region 889's AYSO coaches from the various age groups.

    AYSO EXTRA teams are formed each year by a committee of selected plus coaches, board members and player evaluators primarily through tryouts.
