Coach’s Objectives and Responsibilities
Teach Soccer Skills
- Earn age-appropriate Coach Training to be able to deliver the specific training to your team.
- Run organized, skill-specific training sessions (practices) for your team.
Be a Positive Role Model
- Encourage your team with positive suggestions and comments.
- Do not argue with referees or other coaches in front of your team.
- Promote AYSO Philosophies, namely, Positive Coaching.
Insure the Safety and Well Being of Your Team
- Earn Safe Haven Certification.
- Conduct safe training sessions with team members always under your supervision.
- Be prepared with a first aid kit.
- Do not allow team members to climb on soccer goals.
Keep Winning in Perspective
- Make your highest priority the development of team members’ self esteem and confidence.
- Emphasize the development of team play and of team members’ soccer skills.
- Remember that winning games is not a critical component of a successful season.
Ensure Your Team is Having Fun!
- Plan Sessions comprised of various fun training games.
- Note individual improvements and challenge team members to improve.
- Allow team members to learn multiple positions.
Be the Best Coach You Can Be
- Attend Coach Orientation prior to the season.
- Attend Player Evaluation Meeting at end of season.
- Have fun!
