Youth Referee

End of Spring Season Celebration!

You've worked hard to earn prizes. Whether you refereed 1 game or 30, whether you took them in the fall, spring, or both, we have prizes for you!

Join us Tuesday, May 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Foxborough Park. Wear your soccer gear and bring a chair to play and/or cheer at the youth referee post-season celebration game!

Please let us know you're coming and if you plan to play so we have enough players, dinner, and snacks, email Meg at arra@ayso889.net. Parents and guardians are invited to stay and watch too.

ps. Don't forget volunteering looks GOOD on college applications!

Why should you be a Referee?

Referees are as critical to soccer as players and coaches. In AYSO, the game can’t be played if there aren’t enough referees. It’s most common for a volunteer to begin their AYSO referee career by refereeing their own child’s game. However, as they learn the rules, develop their own techniques for managing players, coaches and fans, and gain an appreciation for how important the role of the referee is to a fun, fair and safe soccer experience, they often find it very rewarding to expand their knowledge and experience through AYSO’s advanced training and certification process. AYSO’s referee training is considered some of the best in the U.S. and includes both in-person courses in your community and online opportunities. Soccer knowledge is a plus, but is certainly not required. The AYSO referee training will give you all you need to know to have a terrific experience on the field.

What are Referee Points?

Each team is asked to cover referee positions equal to what is required to cover their home games. Points are based on what is required as a region to get our games covered. Some games require the Referee to have a higher badge, and games at the upper levels take more time as well. We reward those that take the Center Referee position a higher amount of points per game, and we reward Referee’s that take games equal to their earned badge level.
