U8 FALL 2022 PLAYOFF RULES & PROCEDURES

Regulation Time

The rules are the same as the regular season, unless otherwise indicated.

Playtime Requirements: U8 ‐ Every player plays a minimum of 3/4 game (unless roster size dictates otherwise) and goalkeepers play no more than 1/2 of the game. The 3/4 play time is accomplished during regulation time – not overtime.

Referee/ARs will note subs on line‐up cards, and if they notice a player is sitting a second time it should be brought to the coaches’ attention by the AR so that the coach can correct the situation and not sit the player a second time, unless roster size dictates 1 player to sit twice.

Referee/ARs should note line‐up cards if player leaves early or becomes sick or injured o Coach should confirm subs with Referee/ARs at each quarter to insure the accuracy of the substitutions on the game card.

It is not the Referee’s job to enforce the policy for 3/4 play (1/2 for keepers). However, they are encouraged to assist coaches to remember the policy. The Regional board will decide how to handle any violations of this policy, and they will strongly consider the line‐up cards kept by the Referees.
U8 Overtime Periods- California Shootout

There will be two (5 min) Overtime Periods, in a “sudden death” GOLDEN GOAL format. The team that scores first wins the match.

A coin flip at the start of the first OT period will decide who gets kickoff and each team’s side for the first OT period. The second OT period will restart with a kickoff to the other team. Teams will switch sides.

If both OT periods are played, no player may sit out both overtime periods. (except for injury or illness)

If the match is still tied after 2 OT periods, teams switch sides and continue to phase #1

Phase #1 – Each coach selects ANY 5 players from the roster to be put on the field.  NO GOAL KEEPERS. At this point, rules regarding how many times a player has sat during overtime are disregarded.  Play will continue for 5 more minutes in a “sudden death” GOLDEN GOAL format. The team that scores first wins the match.  If the match is still tied after phase #1, teams switch sides and continue to phase #2

Phase #2 – Each team removes 2 players so there will only be 3 players on the field (no substituting new players at this point / NO GOAL KEEPERS).  This will continue in a “sudden death” GOLDEN GOAL format. The team that scores first wins the match.

Player substation during or between the two phases can only be done in the event of a player injury.
