Why should you be a Referee?

Referees are as critical to soccer as players and coaches. A Referee's main job is to provide a Safe, Fair and Fun environment for kids to play soccer.  In AYSO, the game can’t be played if there aren’t enough referees.
We want you to volunteer as a referee (we need the help) but we don't want to put you into situations where you are uncomfortable or where you cannot provide the level of game management that the players deserve.

What are the advantages of being a Referee:

  • You look really cool to your kids, especially the young impressionable ones!
  • You have the best view of the game!
  • You get great exercise!
  • You get a chance to learn the “Laws of the Game”, and help everyone abide by the philosophies of AYSO
  • You do not have to be perfect. No soccer experience is necessary. We train and certify you.
  • Refs get a free uniform (including the knee-high black socks) & meals during training!
  • Refs get to self-select the games that work with their schedules... games are not forced on them!

     What are Referee Points? Links
Each team is asked to cover referee positions equal to what is required to cover their home games. Points are based on what is required as a region to get our games covered. Some games require the Referee to have a higher badge, and games at the upper levels take more time as well. We reward those that take the Center Referee position a higher amount of points per game, and we reward Referee’s that take games equal to their earned badge level.
